Grandparentage Testing

A grandparentage test determines the biological relationship between a child and the alleged grandparents. A paternal grandparentage test, in which the alleged father’s parents are tested with the child, is often used to determine family relationships when the alleged father is not available. Maternal grandparentage tests also may be used to determine family relationships in situations where an alleged mother is not available.

Grandparentage tests can be done using an in-home kit if the results are for personal knowledge only. In-home testing can be ordered online.

If needed for a legal purpose such as Social Security benefits, grandparentage testing can be performed using a Chain of Custody, a documentation process that makes the test results legally admissible (accepted by courts and other government agencies).

If you would like to take the grandparentage test for a legal purpose, please call one of our case managers at 1-888-362-2592 to discuss the legal testing option.

Tested Parties
In a standard paternal grandparentage test, a child, the mother, and both alleged paternal grandparents are tested. Although testing the mother is helpful in ruling out her contribution to the child's DNA, we can also perform a motherless test.

Fast Results
We can complete the test within three working days after receiving samples from all tested parties. We also offer expedited testing services if you need the results sooner. In-home grandparentage test results are emailed as soon as they are released by the laboratory.

Legal test results are signed by one of Ph.D. scientists, notarized, and sent via first class mail, courier, or fax.
