Three Simple Steps

Please follow these simple steps for in-home paternity testing:

1. Order your DNA sample collection kit online or make your own kit.

• You will be asked for a shipping address; the kit will be sent to that address in a plain, unmarked envelope to protect your privacy.

• We can send to separate addresses if tested parties are in different locations.

• The kit contains enough swabs for the number of persons you specify on the order page. It also contains swabs and instructions for collecting samples and a return envelope for free shipping of samples back to the laboratory. .

2. Collect samples using buccal swabs.

• In the kit, you will find envelopes containing swabs for each tested party. The swabs look like cotton Q-tips, but are made of a special material called Dacron.

• Return your samples to the laboratory using our prepaid bussiness reply envelope.
   

3. Our laboratory performs the DNA test and completes it within 3 working days after receiving all samples.

• Testing starts when we receive all samples. In our laboratory, we extract DNA from the swabs and use the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) together with at least 16 primers to create a “map” of each person’s DNA, called a DNA profile. The 16 primers we use include the 13 CODIS markers that the FBI uses in their investigations to identify individuals.

• The tested parties’ DNA profiles are then compared to determine the probability of relatedness. For a paternity test, we require a probability of at least 99.99% when the father is not 100% excluded.

• Results are sent via email as soon as they are released by the laboratory. You may also choose to receive results via phone, first class mail, or express delivery.
