Maternity Test A maternity test is used to determine if a woman is a child’s biological mother. Results of a maternity test may be used to prove the maternal relationship in immigration or adoption cases. Our laboratory also has performed the test for patients in these situations: - Mothers or hospital staff who suspect that a mix-up has occurred between babies in the nursery
- Adoptees and birth mothers who want to ensure they have been reunited with the right person
- A mother who has conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and wants to ensure that the implanted embryo is really hers
Maternity tests usually are performed using a Chain of Custody, a documentation process that makes the test results legally admissible (accepted by courts and other government agencies). Tested Parties
In a maternity test, a child and alleged mother are tested. Participation of the father in the test is encouraged—this aids in the analysis—but it is not required to produce conclusive results. Painless Collection Procedure
Our standard procedure uses the painless and non-invasive buccal swab—a cotton-like swab rubbed against the inside of the patient’s mouth to gather loose cheek cells. Convenient Appointment Locations
We have the largest sample collection network in the United States. If you live in the U.S., we can schedule your appointment at a location close to your home or work, often on the same day. There are thousands of collection sites affiliated with us all over the U.S. and worldwide. The collection facility charges a sample collection fee of $70 for an alleged mother and child; fathers are collected free of charge. Additional tested parties (children or alleged mothers) are collected at $35 each. For your convenience, we pre-pay the collection fee and add it to your balance. Fast, Notarized Results
